This is FANTASTIC. Layered, thoughtful, articulate...just BRILLIANT work. I am very, very impressed at the language, the layering, the backstory you've woven that is complex and moves beyond the simple. I LOVE that the motivation you've given Suzie to hate her father is in grief and betrayal (of her and her mother) and his own indifference and disdain for her in the first place.
Tremendously WELL-chosen Emily poems, and EXCELLENT way to work Suzie's fondness for her poems into the piece. I particularly like her sobbing when she read the poems a year after her mother and Marco's deaths; so many people I know have come to Emily D and an appreciation of and understanding of her through reading them in a time of grief. I like the added layer of Suzie's grief that Mum and Marco were coming to visit her.
This is just FANTASTIC all around. Really, really excellent.
