Ganked from
thebuttonontop because I am avoiding all of my responsibilities. Surprise, surprise. Do any of you care? Probably not. Run and hide now.
What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Uhm. Graduated from comm college with a 4.0? Starred in a play? Published a book? I think that was this year, anyway. Seems like a decade ago. Oh, and I drove to/through lots of different states!
Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't know that I made one. Generally, if I do, it's just "Don't suck as much at life."
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I know of.
Did anyone close to you die?
My uncle just passed, but I never got to know him well, as he spent the last thirty years in a nursing home.
What countries did you visit?
None, sadly. Though it was a year for state-side travel, it seems.
What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
An actual full-time position. Also, a life. And a Nobel prize for Literature, if you're handing things out.
What date(s) from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
None, actually. I don't remember the dates of much. I see them as periods of extreme emotion. Oh, actually, the day I saw Day 4 of CoE, but that's more because it was my mom's birthday.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
See first question. Also driving a total of 24 hours in a 52 or so hour period.
What was your biggest failure?
Being perpetually in massive debt. And clinging to a codependent relationship, but mostly the debt.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Well, nothing out of the ordinary. I've a chronic condition, and it flared up occasionally, but nothing that couldn't be managed.
What was the best thing you bought?
My Blackberry. I'm addicted to this thing.
Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mother's, sometimes. I'm glad when she can see beyond the pain and laugh. Also, my aunt, for holding up so well after my uncle's death. She's a strong woman and I admire her greatly.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My father's, also sometimes. When he starts drinking again, anyway.
Where did most of your money go?
Bills, school, and things I absolutely did not need.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Torchwood, it appears. And going to Chicago. And a whole host of little things that would make sense to very few people.
What song will always remind you of 2010?
Aenema or Forty Six & 2 by Tool, mostly because I listened to them constantly.
Compared to this time last year (2010), are you:
i. Happier or sadder? Happier, by far.
ii. Thinner or fatter? About the same, I think.
iii. Richer or poorer? Poorer. Egads, poorer.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Drugs. No, just kidding. Saving money, definitely.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating and spending.
How did you spend Christmas?
Last year? I...I think I spent the previous evening at my ex's (who was not then my ex) to take care of our cat, and then went home to fight with my family. This year, I will be home for a bit and then pet-sitting my coworkers animals. Both of which are a bit of a let-down as Christmas is my most favorite time of year.
What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2010?
You know, I don't remember. I'm sure it was something fantastic, too, but I tend not to dwell on these things. I did almost tell my boss that I loved him when about to hang up on a phone call, but I caught myself in time, so it doesn't count.
Did you fall in love in 2010?
I make it a habit of falling in love regularly. I also fell out of love. Lots of falling happening.
How many one-night stands?
None. I don't tend to go that route; it usually lends itself to extreme disappointment.
What was your favorite TV program?
Torchwood. Which isn't fair, because it wasn't supposed to happen.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Business casual during the week, casual-but-with-thought on weekends, classic when more elegance is called for. In summation, "If it's clean, wear it."
What kept you sane?
The constant acceptance and love from friends, coworkers, and family. Also, knowing myself helped. And music. A lot of music.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't particularly hate anyone. It's a wasted emotion.
What was the best book you read in 2010?
Best book? Oh, I loved them all, really. I was surprisingly fond of The Help, though.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
I don't know that I discovered anything particularly new. Oh, maybe Lily Allen.
What did you want and get?
Respect.
What did you want and not get?
Notoriety. Fame. Importance. Also, a million dollars.
What was your favourite film of this year?
I don't know that I saw any new films. I don't think that I did, actually. Huh. But it was still Velvet Goldmine. Or A Philadelphia Story. Or Rebecca.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned twenty three. I went to the bar with a couple of people, I think.
What three things would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Being hired as a real employee, getting out of debt, and being discovered for my innumerable talents.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
You know, good question. I fancied lots of them, but for very different reasons. GDL, because I want to be him. Minus the being male bit, in any case. And maybe Kai Owen, because he's fun and full of energy and an all-around gentleman. But I don't fancy them in a particularly sexual or romantic way. And Maynard, for being a genius. Same with Tori. But still, as always, above all others, Oscar Wilde and Queen Elizabeth I (no one said they had to be current!)
What political issue stirred you the most?
Marijuana legalization, myriad religious issues, and marriage equality. And healthcare, because I would like to have some, please and thank you.
Who did you miss?
My ex, on occasion. And my extended family. And my baby kitty cat. :(
Who was the best new person you met?
Jen, a couple of people in my courses at school, and a bunch of people on here. I mean, really, how do I pick a best?
What is a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010?
Money does not grow on trees. In fact, money is becoming extinct. Also, procrastination is only good for writing papers.
What quote can be used to sum up your year?
Well, this sums up me during the year: "I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying." - Oscar Wilde
And this sums up my year: "Hold onto nothing as fast as you can; well, still, pretty good year." - Tori Amos
