I started writing TW fic in...September, a little after I finished watching the show (started sometime in mid-August, I think?).
And I do write original stuff, though I haven't in a while. I tend towards poetry, but did self-publish a crappy book of short stories back in May as part of independent course work. It's...pretty awful.
Fanfic is MUCH easier to play around with, though, as a good deal is already established and you already have a made-to-order audience :)
