I know, you're probably all not interested. But if I don't do this, I will...freak out constantly? And okay, yeah, I like to hear myself talk see myself type hear myself type.
So. We are currently at ~28,500 words. The plot is being wound up in the way that we...hoped it might. We don't have much more to write, technically, but we don't want it to stop. There was a point around 8k words, I believe, where we thought the story was done. Apparently, there were about 20k words more of story. We've been writing in 200-400 word intervals, back and forth. I'll write a few paragraphs, email it, and then
analineblue will write a few more, email it back, and so on. We've been doing this for...months now, I think. I don't even remember. 28k words in 300-word intervals over months. And yet we really want this to go on forever.
Not that it will, of course. We will obviously stop it at some point. It's wrapping up now, really.
Also, we have a beta now! It feels a bit like...looking for an editor for a novel. We had lengthy discussions about who we should get, what we would expect them to do, etc. It was hard because we're so used to betaing for each other. But! Our first choice agreed quite exhuberantly, and we're very happy to have her on board! ♥ (Not mentioning names in case said beta wishes to remain anonymous. Like an anonymous benefactor.)
This is how we pitched the idea to her (because I so belong in sales!): The premise of our fic is a Jack and Ianto love story set against the backdrop of 21st century Cardiff, Wales. In the aftermath of From Out of the Rain, Ianto seeks to determine just what the night travelers are; alien, supernatural, etc. In his pursuit to discover bits of Jack's past, he finds himself firmly grounded in the present, and facing an unknown future. Or some such tagline. Basically, it's a bit of plot, and a lot of rambling conversations. Also some smut. Also some Team!Togetherness. Also some angst. Also some domestic!fluff. Fun for the whole family!
As you can see, I am very excited about this!
Speaking of being excited, I made a mix for it! Not...a legitimate mix like one of the artists who might choose us would make, but a "Every time I write my next section, I will listen to this!" mix.
Here. Have some of the mix!
I'm Not Ready To Love - Rufus Wainwright (ignore the...anime?)
We Never Change - Coldplay
How My Heart Behaves - Feist
Diamond Meadows - T.Rex
Imaginary Love - Rufus Wainwright
Let It Rain - OK Go
We Only Come Out At Night - The Smashing Pumpkins (ignore the...cat?)
Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots
Your Cloud - Tori Amos
Parabol - Tool
It feels like I'm trying to...drum up interest (and business!) for this fic. Maybe I am? In a world where the economy is based on your collective love for us? IDEK. But! We are very excited. You should be excited with us. And no matter what, I'm really proud. This has kept me writing even when I felt like nothing was worth saying. And I think it's made us really hyper-aware of what we say and how we say it, while also allowing for more stream-of-consciousness. This probably makes no sense. Except in my head.
But, you guys. 28k words. WHAT. How did this happen? *Bounces*
