I didn't watch any of it and I stumbled on the Rex immortal thing in a spoiler before I went to bed last night. It did make me mad that it wasn't Ianto (I can't help that, I'm sad) not because Ianto is dead but because it just felt like RTD sticking his middle finger up at us '9 emotional women' again. Yes, you guys have been writing it for years, I'll give it to you, just with the wrong person I don't understand how Rex became immortal though, the spoiler I read said he had Jack's blood but if Jack's secret to immortality was in his blood, then if he bled to death he wouldn't come back, surely. And all the tests TW must have done on him over the years, someone (Owen, because he was a genius, a prat but a genius)must have been able to work this out. And of course if it's in one bodily fluid then surely...well I won't go there but Ianto should have gasped back to life in Thames House right back the time Jack did. AND we don't have the same blood forever, so when Jack's blood is gone and Rex is producing his own blood cells again, will he no longer be immortal!
Anyway I'm blathering, I've already fixed it in my head, although I doubt I'll write it because it would mean watching MD (because my writers urge for details/research would insist on it). Needless to say, after many explainations - which would probably make more sense than the show - it turns out Rex was Ianto all along! (I'm certain somebody else will write this exact scenario anyway LOL)
