Well. I love tattoos that take less time than a manicure.
No. Really.
And really, the tattoo process is like torture. I've felt drained all night. Don't let anyone tell you that it doesn't hurt. Of course it hurts. Sure, the pain threshold is different for everyone, and it certainly didn't hurt enough for me to stop. But a needle constantly stabbing into my skin for an hour? Well. Duh. Also, the outlines always hurt worse than the shading/coloring. I have yet to determine why. (This may be because of the flow of endorphins - outline comes first, shading later at which point...adrenaline!)
But my body does not know that I am getting a tattoo. My body only knows "Oh crap, someone keeps stabbing us with sharp, pointy things!" And of course, the healing process then starts, immediately. SO, my body has been in a state of torture/heal for an hour and now just "Ahhh! Fix it!" for the past 6 hours.
Not that I'm complaining. I just find it interesting to consider my body and its reactions. And, despite the feeling of being completely drained, I still have a bit of that rush. And so I am still awake.
But you don't care about that. You just want to see the tattoo.
Well. Here it is. :)

I am really kind of in love with it. A lot. It my first colored piece, too, which is exciting. My mother likes it. But then, my mother likes all of my body modifications, which is odd, because she is pretty much...not like that? But then, my parents let me get away with all sorts of ridiculous things. And this IS the woman with whom I talked for hours about Basil Rathbone, Tom of Finland, the Battle of Bosworth, and turkey last night. So. This is to be expected.
Speaking of Basil Rathbone, have a fun factoid: Rathbone was once arrested in 1926 along with every other member of the cast of "The Captive," a play in which his character's wife left him for another woman. Though the charges were eventually dropped, Rathbone was very angry about the censorship because he believed that homosexuality needed to be brought into the open.
Or, so my mother tells me.
So. Yes. Time for bed. Good night all!

Date: 2011-06-16 09:57 am (UTC)It depends a lot on where you get it; my wrists are more sensitive than other areas where I've gotten tattoos. Be courageous! :) Also, after a while, at least for me, it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as in the beginning. It sort of stings dully, at least for me. :)

Date: 2011-06-16 02:30 am (UTC)I like your mum so much. Mine is totally the opposite. She's horrified by my wanting tattoos and if I went on about my interests, she'd find a way to shift the conversation back to what's on the telly at the minute. Annoying, but, ok.

Date: 2011-06-16 09:59 am (UTC)And...my mother is a decent person some of the time. You don't see all the bad stuff, just the amusing stuff I post. Granted, my parents are accepting, but they were both hippies. SO. :D And I have to hear my mom go on about her interests ALL of the time, so she lets me ramble on occasion! She DOES watch copious amounts of television, though...

Date: 2011-06-16 02:56 am (UTC)But that is really nice btw. I find that red ink swells/scabs more than any other colour, so just keep a wee eye on it, and make sure you use plenty of *whatever healing lotion you're using* :)

Date: 2011-06-16 10:02 am (UTC)As for thresholds, though, I can absolutely see it. My threshold of pain is probably average, but my tolerance is high? So I'll feel and notice the pain, but I'm a stoic monk about it.
I didn't know that about red ink! Thanks for the tip. It's in a great place for washing and lotion application, unlike the one on an awkward part of my chest! :D

Date: 2011-06-16 03:25 am (UTC)Be careful with the sun too, wear a sunblock cream if you are outside because it can blister.
The most important now is to enjoy it and show it off!!!
