I cannot sleep for the life of me. This MAY have something to do with being attacked by a hungry cat at 4am. She growls and is scary. But I love her. Or, I'm being paid to love her. That's enough for me.

Anyway. You're all going to laugh at me, but I can't stop thinking about this. I feel like fandom has completely altered. And, you know, no matter what I think about the damn radio play, the awesome thing is that I finally got to experience something big in fandom while it happened. You know? Okay, the awesome thing is also the play itself. But still.

In any case, it prompted me to write last night. Not even relative to the plot, just...a thing. Which is pretty incredible, as I had just about given up. Yay, words!

Also, totally random, but! Back in November, I was driving back from Chicago with [livejournal.com profile] thebuttonontop after Chicago Tardis, and I was like, "OH! I know it's some ridiculous hour of the morning, but you've got to hear this song! It reminds me of Jack and Ianto!" And it did, but not really canonically? But now, now it does. Now it fits perfectly. It won't let me embed, but...LISTEN TO IT OVER HERE ON YOUTUBE: Haunted - Poe. I seriously wish that this had been an episode so I could make a ridiculous video.

But, you guys? That really happened, didn't it? Oh God.

Yep, it really, truly happened. I was there.

And oh.. that song is kinda... just... wow. Amazing. I must now go and search out the rest of the album :)

The WHOLE album is amazing, as is her prior album, "Hello." I was going to write a whole series based on her songs, but got distracted. I mean, she has songs with lyrics like "Trigger happy Jack" and "Don't tell the captain, don't you tell him what I done" and "Johnny, angry Johnny, I'm gonna kill you, I'm gonna blow you...away." *Stops fangirling*

Are we sure this wasn't mass hysteria? Like the miracle in Miracle Day, only instead of not dying, the world imagines this whole exchange? ;)

I had the same impulse to write yesterday (obviously). It's the first time I've actually given into writing fanfic in ages that hasn't been drabbles or silliness.

Also, love Poe. So much.

It happened. And it was gorgeous.
I didn't actually realise that the plays were coming out on the iPlayer so quickly after each other, so I listened to "Submission" and "The House Of The Dead" just now.
It is half past arse in the morning, my headache is raging, and I've just had my heart broken again, and I can't stop smiling.
I love closure.
(Also, Poe is awesome. That is all.)

It's ridiculous. I called my mom last night and she answered "Torchwood Central" yet again, as she does. And I just started crying and laughing.

"Submission" was really sweet, too, actually. I loved the constant theme of the plays, of staying alive, or sacrificing for love, or outliving your time, and all of that. It culminated well with, and was a great buildup for, THOFTD.

Closure and Poe are both beautiful things!

I know what you mean! I came in later to the fandom too and was all excited about CoE and then the fandom totally imploded. Hmm. (I'm not a jinx, I promise!)

Thank you for the transcript, too!!!

You bring the Fandom Bombs, I know you do. I'm going to have to start calling you John Hart.

You're quite welcome for the transcript! :)

Yes, I know it happened because I spent the whole day yesterday dealing with the emotional fallout! :D And I too felt like it was a major shift. It was closure, and closure is great, but very final. I was trying to see all the positives while just feeling as if my guts were being torn out! By the end of the day I was able to see how important this play was to canon. I mean, I believed in this versn of TW anyway because it's part of fanon, but now it's part of the official canon which kind of makes me feel as if we've won a small victory. And today, I'm feeling pretty good about that.

Wow, my LJ notifications are WAY off. I think maybe we broke it with our sobbing?! ;)

I know what you mean. I keep thinking about it, thinking about how suddenly everything looks different. At least to me. I'm working on a post Exit Wounds fic right now, written after I heard the play, and everything about it seems new. Somehow.

And you're right - I'm feeling pretty good about what happened, too. :)

I felt last night and today like something altered, bit hard to describe really.

The whole thing is a bit weird - whose decion was it to do this? The BBC seemed to put this play on for one reason and one reason only and that was for all the Janto/Ianto fans out there. No one else listening would have a clue what was going on. And this was on one of the most popular Radio 4 spots, not on at midnight.

The regular listener to the afternoon play would be left thinking "WTF"? [Though I'm sure it would be a much more polite version of that!]

None of tonight's first ep tweets of TW:MD on Twitter have mentioned the plays - or barely Ianto.

So why? There are so many questions. I don't take much notice of all the supposed 'foreshadowing' but even so, this came out of nowhere!!

All of the last 10 minutes - no just about all of it could have been lifted straight out of fanfic...

What did GDL and JB think of it? This has not been mentioned in any interviews when JB has been asked about Ianto. GDL has not mentioned it.
It's all so odd, can't quite get my head around it.
I'm not ready to let Ianto go, but feel that there is this pressure to do so... does that make sense?

Was Ianto 'real' in the play? I mean had he formed as real - Jack thought so, he thought so. Why didn't he attack and 'eat' Jack like the other ghosts were?

Is Ianto trapped through the rift?

And no one [Jack] has seen a funeral - so we STILL don't know what happened to Ianto's body.

It goes on and on and I feel stricken all over again.

In GDL's comic, Shrouded, Ianto did have a funeral, and Jack attended. As for how they felt about the play, GDL pulled his band out of the middle of a competition to record, so I'm guessing he thought it was a good idea on some level.

I personally won't question the motives; they aren't mine to decipher. It did feel a bit like fanfic. Or, a lot. :)

Ahh, didn't read Shrouded, well only some of it:)

I knew about GDL and the band and so on, I was more musing on how they felt about returning to Ianto's death and the fact that it has been - and continues to be - such a controversial subject. Just curious as JB in particular seems to have an opinion on just about every aspect of TW :)
