LAS. What is going on with it? I have a story. I have edited this story to within an inch of its life. I have submitted the story. I have not heard back.

I know that the mod has been having rough times and was going to delay the due date, but I haven't heard anything since that (no new due dates, no other updates, etc.) Has anyone heard anything about this? I just...I don't wanna get kicked out because I'm dumb?

In other news. Watched Miracle Day last night. And I liked it, generally. I really did. But I still have to separate it in my mind because...it really isn't the same. I knew this going in, of course. But I thought it'd be okay. And it is, really. I'm not, however, as excited as I'd hoped. I mean, the inconsistencies? They never bother me until compounded with other things. Didn't Gwen used to wear heeled boots? Why can't the landlord be gay without adopting a ridiculous accent? (Okay, yeah, that pissed me off a lot - it was entirely unnecessary except as a way to set up a stale joke, and only served to underscore ridiculous gay stereotypes).

Yes, Jack in a uniform WAS hot. And, even though I have no interest in shipping Jack/Gwen, I loved how they were as a couple. In fact, it serves to completely underscore the fact that that ship has, pretty much, sailed. In season one, such a mission would be a Big Deal. Here? The focus was on the mission itself (and Gwen's accent, which really wasn't that bad at all). Not Feelings.

I would've totally loved to see Ianto in Gwen's position, though, when infiltrating PhiCorp. Mostly because it was totally James Bond. [livejournal.com profile] analineblue pointed out, though, that costumes+office+Jack+Ianto=unsuccessful mission. This is true. But will someone please write it for me anyway? *Shameless plea*

I also love Oswald in a not-really kind of way. And I find myself ready and willing to believe him, which is brilliant. Also, I loved that the Tea Party was involved. It made me laugh. A lot. And Sarah Palin that mayor person...she freaked me out more than Oswald does. I don't even want to know what that says about me. But it really illustrated the idea that prejudice is born of fear.

Also, this is absolutely ridiculous, but - okay. When MD was shooting, I spoke about it with a coworker. She has NEVER seen Torchwood, and only liked it because it was a way to tease me endlessly. I was talking about shooting in the US, and how the Hub had blown up, and how suddenly the town we were in was filled with black Torchwood-like SUVs, and I was sad and blah blah blah. "Well," she said, "they're just setting it up so you can be in it! Just wait, there'll be a character with your name! Torchwood is stalking you! They're always watching." And last night, there was a character with my name. A character with what I presume to be paranoid schizophrenia. They ARE watching me, aren't they? (I'm kidding - really.)

I think I would like MD more if it was more from the perspective of Torchwood and not Everyone Else, Too. I think that's what I miss the most. I miss Jack leading, Jack-style (yes, it's happened occasionally so far, and I know he's suffering, but...). And I keep responding to lines with, "Yeah, but (Suzie/Owen/Tosh/Ianto/Janet/Myfanwy) would know how to do _____!" And I admit, I'm a bit tired of the Horrible Families. And the onslaught of backstory so early on.

Now. Speculations. I know we're going to find out about this Past Thing that Jack had a hand in, that it isn't already known. But that isn't stopping me from connecting the cryptic messages to previously-established canon events.

What we know: These whatevers have been here for...forever? A long time? They are no one. Jack has dealt with them before and he gave them something that they...got a taste for and wanted more of? They referred to themselves as a family. One of them has a Southern Accent? Okay, whatever.

What I think: I think many things.

The fairies: They've been here forever. They're no one, aren't they? Because they're fairies. Jack gave them Jasmine. I don't know why they would want people to be immortal, but I'm sure there's a hand-wavey explanation in there somewhere.

The 456: They're back. Just 'cause.

Abaddon:  Jack gave Abaddon a taste of endless life. Abaddon didn't actually die, just...was blissed out. And now he wants more!

The Family of Blood: Come on, it'd be awesome.

Equilateral Triangles: In a bid to exact vengeance against their more popular breathren, isosceles triangles, the Equilaterals have...done some trigonometry. Before, Jack had given the Equilaterals Toshiko, who loved them dearly. Humans are basically caught up in a geometric turf war.

Anyway. Big Bang update! [livejournal.com profile] analineblue and I hit the 15k mark of our rough draft! We are quite proud. But here's the thing. We have plot. We even made a vague outline of plot. Here is how normal people go about plot.

And this is what we're doing.

I'm not complaining, though. I actually quite like it. :D

And now, have some memes?

Meme#1 - thieved from [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash, unbeknownst to her. Look, I was bored while LJ was done, okay!?

Print screen your current desktop.
If you have Photoshop open, print screen.
If you have a music player open, print screen.
Pick a folder, open it, print screen.

I am boring with my plain black desktop, huh?

I have freeware. Shut up.

And here's my music. Or, some of it.

And here are my works in progress? All 57596568 of them. Some of them haven't been touched in almost a year. Oh well. Please note the left side where my cascade of Torchwood-related folders reveals the extent of my ridiculousness.

Meme#2 - thieved from IDEK.

Ten things that make you happy, in pictures.

Storms - These are the only aspect of summer I  really look forward to. The anticipatory silence proceeding, the chaos during, the peace and tranquility after. I love it. All of it. I get so excited for thunderstorms.

Theatre - But not just theatre. This specific picture is of Tchaikovky's Sleeping Beauty. My favorite composer, my favorite fairy tale.

Music - Specifically, the sweepingly orchestrated type.

The Ocean/Rocky Beaches - The grey-black kind, overcast and tempestuous. I love the rocky beaches of the east coast so very much.

Reading/Writing/fun pens? - There...needs to be no explanation for this, I think.

Antique and Collectible Pocket Knives - My father was an antique dealer whose specialty lay in things like pocket and hunting knives, corkscrews, lighters, and other such things. I had my own pocket knife collection from the time I was born until the time I hit my adolescence and needed to sell them to buy glitter eye makeup. I want my knives back. My first knife show was when I was 5 weeks old and I THINK I still have my membership to the Northeast Cutlery Collectors' Association.

Garnet - I love garnets. Garnet everything. The depth of the red, that richness, is far more beautiful than rubies could ever hope to be.

Smoking and Drinking Coffee - While these two things make me happy enough on their own, taken together makes me joyous. This is probably due to the rush of stimulants, but whatever.

Blue Willow - This is my mother's favorite china pattern. We have the plates we eat off, and then the antique pieces that she's collected over the years. It's familiar, comforting, and the story it tells is lovely. In short,  it is the story of two young lovers who have to run away because the girl’s father doesn’t want them to marry. They run and run, praying to be together. Then they turn into birds and fly away, happily ever after.

Autumn - The most beautiful, bright, vibrant season ever. It's cool and crisp and the air smells of wood burning and leaf mold. There are harvests and warm jackets, and my own personal heaven would be forever autumn. Which is also a lovely Moody Blues song, too.

Well. Now you know things about me. Enjoy?

Also. Hi to [livejournal.com profile] deuxditz! I miss you! Happy Birthday! And also, be warned - this journal will probably not interest you very much. ;)

*Wanders off to get dinner*

As far as I know, LAS is on hold indefinitely. At least you've done stuff. I've pretty much forgotten its existence.

As for MD, I watched a bit of it (the Gwen+Jack parts) and really, they are super awesome as BFFs. Part of me kept wanting to substitute Gwen with Ianto in the office scene, but you and Analine are right, if it had been Ianto, they'd have gotten nothing done (or gotten caught with their pants down). The banter was just awesome (and Jack in uniform was hot). As for the accent, I'm a poor judge of stuff like that, but I though it was fine. WAY better than when she read Jack in the audiobook "In the Shadows".
Yeah, I feel a lot better about MD now. XD
However, it annoys me that the baddies are once again tied to Jack's past. At this point, almost every TW baddie has history with Jack and twice have people died thanks to them. Seriously, Jack, did you piss off the entire goddamn universe?

Great to know your BigBang's going well, despite the unexpected turns. :)

I guess he's slept with half the universe' wives, husbands, other?

You'd think the future centuries would be a lot less tight-arsed about that.

I will just cling to this story then. I will have to ignore it, though, or else I'll edit it until there are only 5 words left or something lol

I'm glad you're feeling better about MD. I loved the Gwen+Jack interactions. They make me giggle. And...yeah, Jack probably did. At some point. :)

As for the BigBang, it's...totally the way we write. It's like, we go off on tangents and then remember that there's actual plot supposed to be happening? So it ends up like this: (Plot Point) - (Sex and/or Random Making Out) - (Serious Discussion) - (Sex and/or Random Making Out) - (Less Serious Discussion) - (Random Team Conversation) - (Science) - (Serious Discussion) - (Plot Point). ;)

Bilis Manger maybe?

I would actually really like that, they set up this awesome character who can go anywhere in time and seems pissed at Jack for some reason and then...nothing apart from the books.

Is Gwen the only one with a normal family? Well, Tosh' family was normal, too, but still...two?

From: [identity profile] sariagray.livejournal.com
I was hoping for Bilis, yes! :)

I mean, Ianto's family, in my mind, was normally dysfunctional - a father who holds high expectations and pushes too hard, lower middle class woes, that sort of thing. But now it's getting ridiculous. :)

I was including Owen and Jack with the dysfunctional families...Owen apparently didn't speak to his anymore...no one seemed to care when he died and there's Jack who lost his brother by accident, had his dad die in front of him and was later buried and terrorized by the brother he's lost...

I thought that was pretty dysfunctional enough...you're right, at least Ianto's was a bit more normal.

I completely agree with you - it's why I didn't include them. They're pasts are seriously dysfunctional. Ianto's present is more dysfunctional than his past, I think. ;)

Hi! Thanks for the happy birthdays! It's an interesting journal in its own way, for someone only vaguely familiar with Dr. Who/Torchwood. I don't know how thrilling my journal will be, but.. it's a thing.

Okay, before I get to all the MD stuff... the Meme stuff:

Tchaikovsky and Sleeping Beauty... YOUR AWESOMENESS KNOWS NO BOUNDS. ♥ Without a doubt, the best composer and my most favourite ballet in the entire. freaking. world. HANDS DOWN.

LoL-ing at Willow Pattern. My Nana has (had? - I still get really confused by the tenses here) a whole collection of Willow-ware. Within the next couple of weeks, it's all going to my mum, because she adores it too.

- In other news, I am going to snag these memes and do them.

I love your thoughts on the Palin-Not-Palin character, basically because I felt the same way. And in fact, I was a bit shocked and maybe it's just all the stuff from my history classes coming back to stomp in my head, but I felt it had definite holocaust overtones to it.

I think - for me, and I know because I called it dodgy - Gwen's accent was so hilarious because it just sounded wrong coming out of Eve Myles' mouth. But, and again, I agree with you, I think the interaction here between Gwen and Jack is definitely that of Best Friends, and the UST between them is gone.

That being said, I'd really like to see how the relationship between Jack and Rhys would flourish if the writers ever allowed them to have a decent amount of screen-time together, sans Gwen.

YAY! I am so glad someone likes Tchaikovsky! I love Sleeping Beauty and I love that Disney used the music and I love...everything.

Willow is definitely my favorite thing, now. Maybe a liking of it is hereditary? ;) When looking for a picture for this meme I found a whole bunch of pictures of Blue Willow tattoos. And now I want one.

Snag away!

And yes, I can see the whole holocaust overtones - and even allusions to America's own segregationist past.

It DID sound wrong coming from her, I'll give you that! And I would love to see Jack and Rhys. :D

We're actually now over 16k. Are you not keeping track, or are you just drumming up enthusiasm and stroking our collective ego? lol

Oh god you posted the trololo guy. Now he's stuck in my head. You suck! (j/k, he was already stuck in my head)

LAS is on hiatus for now. Which I'm happy about. Since I haven't written a word of anything in about a month.
