"We're punk rock, but we're also OCD. So...we fuck shit up, but then we have to rearrange it. That's what we're doing now. Sorry." <--Paraphrased, but also the best thing ever.
Maynard. MAYNARD.
Okay. So I went to see A Perfect Circle back on the...12th of July. And enjoyed it. But then The House of the Dead happened RIGHT AFTER and blew up my mind. So. That was...forgotten.
But tonight was the CT show. And it was brilliant. Apparently, it was the end of their tour. The last show. And the last show is always either the best or the worst. I am betting, knowing what I know from Boston, that it was the best.
No one here probably cares overmuch, but...it was pretty incredible. First, I could ACTUALLY see this time. Which was a nice thing. And the band...talked a bit, and was far more interactive than the Boston show. And they were also...destroying their set. And they were cute, and Maynard was adorably self-deprecating and demanded that people share pretzels (? I am not sure what was going on there, but he was apparently...drinking a lot), and they played all of my favorite songs (or...most. Including that song that I did the Cyberwoman video too!) He was also totally sweet with the opening band, who were also fantastic and cute in a "punk/speed metal" kind of way. And really, I just love it all. Also, during the opening band's performance, some man ran out in a speedo and a cape and sunglasses and held up a sign and danced on stage. And I'm pretty sure it was...Maynard. Which sort of made my life.
Maynard dances interestingly, too. In case you were wondering. I just...want to hug him. And for those who think he's some...fan-hating asshole, I don't see it. I mean, maybe I'm naively optimistic, but I just don't see the spite that others seem to see. I think, too, that we hold celebrities to such ridiculous standards. When we have a bad day and grumble about it, and snap at people, we brush it off. But if a celebrity does, for some reason we're all offended. Like they aren't people. We make them gods, and then criticize their egos. Ridiculous.
When they weren't on stage (pre-show and in between acts), they played...The Sound of Music soundtrack. I sang along. With enthusiasm.
And, okay, when they played "People are People," there was totally rainbow lighting. Like, poignant rainbow lighting. Am I reading into this? Maybe. But it made me happy, just a little (or, a lot). I think it was intentional, at any rate. It made me EVEN MORE in love with them all. (They did it in Boston, too. But again. The House of the Dead happened, and I can't be responsible for remembering anything that occurred immediately before or after).
The people around us were less assholeish than in Boston, too. And actually remained seated so that...people could see, at least in the balcony. Floor is totally a different story, and I get that, but it was nice to get a good view and still be comfortable. Also, air conditioning is a plus. :D And no one was whining about "Oh, you can't even see Maynard" or "I hate that they're playing stuff from this album!" Because yes, Maynard stood to the side, in the back, in the shadows. But I thought that was pretty fucking awesome in a "don't follow me, follow the music" sort of way. And yes, they played a lot from eMotive, but they never toured for that album, so...it makes sense.
Also, they were videotaping. And MAY have gotten me doing strange Bollywood dances to amuse my friend, when I wasn't paying attention. Oops.
This is perhaps the worst written entry I have ever...written. But it was fantastic. Totally worth the price, and going again, and everything. I got a shirt!
I have to get up in 4.5 hours for work. Damn.
