My Theory, By Which I Mean My Hope
Sep. 9th, 2011 08:24 pmI've refrained, for the most part, from posting my Miracle Day speculations (mostly because I have NO IDEA what's going on half the time). But I've been sitting on this scene (that won't happen surely!) for months now, since they first started filming, really. And I remember when I first got into fandom, looking back and seeing all of the wild COE-speculation that never came true. And it was interesting and exciting and in case everyone dies tonight, I wanted to post this so that in the future, some unsuspecting new Torchwood fan might stumble upon this and think, "I wish I was in fandom then. Oh, if only this poor soul knew what was in store when she posted it."
I've taken it directly from a comment I just left
eldarwannabe and edited it a little, because it's relatively fully formed and really, I'm too lazy for words. So. Enjoy my ridiculous ideas.
So. Miracle Day ends however it ends, right? Just...all sorts of crazy shit. But we still don't know who's actually behind it, ultimately. No clue. We know the bits and pieces, we know the chain of command up to the head honcho. And that's okay; generally, we accept that everyone answers to a higher authority (seriously, who were those sleeper agents?!)
After all is said and done, Jack is proud of his resilient team. He's hugged and kissed Gwen and Esther, and maybe even Rhys (I have a thing, okay?) and he and Rex trade barbs-without-bitterness, and he snuggles Anwen a bit. There's this long camera shot of him walking back to somewhere (depends where they all end up, really), perhaps down a dark alley to a hotel/flat/motel/brothel/whatever. He goes into a room, and it's blue-dark, like where we saw him in the first episode of MD. And he's sitting there, looking thoughtful. Maybe he's looking at a photograph or a note or something. We, as the audience, don't really know what it is, nor do we need to. Maybe it's a photo of the old team, or the new team, or a team we've never seen before. Maybe it's one of Rose, or Ianto, or Estelle, or Angelo, or Lucia, or even John Hart.
Either way, Jack's sitting on the bed, the door behind him, with his legs spread slightly and his head bent in remembrance, and his hands draped between his knees, limp, as he holds the relic of some memory. There's sweet, nostalgic music playing in the background, things are winding down, and we have some Jack man!pain or something to think about, apparently. But it's not quite that angsty. Just...bittersweet.
And then, a shadow steps from the doorway. We can tell by the build that it's a man, but that's about it because we're still focused on Jack's melancholy, as it's in the foreground. We barely even notice the dark figure behind him. It isn't particularly menacing, but neither is it, you know, happy-go-lucky.
Suddenly, we hear a distinct (and vaguely familiar) voice, Welsh and quiet, barely above a whisper, low in pitch. It's almost sad, but not quite - generally emotionless, though there's a tinge of exhaustion in it, too. "Hello, Jack."
We zoom in (more like pan, not so fast as a zoom) and watch as Jack's eyes widen in shock. It isn't panic or fear, nor is it elation. It's simply heart-stopping. Just pure, utter shock. Something we've never seen from Jack before. His jaw clenches and then goes slack, and we focus even closer until we only see Jack's face, nothing else. We see his mouth open like he's about to speak, and we see the muscles twitch and we know by the movement that he's going to turn around, right this second, and then we'll see....
The screen goes black and the theme plays.

Date: 2011-09-10 11:34 pm (UTC)It seems that Ianto - rather than fade away in the excitement of it all - has just loomed larger and larger - the gigantic elephant in the room.
The best moment of all was Jack talking about him to Angelo. For one so brief moment we saw the CJ we love and a man desperate to share with someone how much Ianto meant and to have a chance to say his name.
One true moment in ten hours of rubbish with the name 'Torchwood' tacked onto it.

Date: 2011-09-16 11:06 am (UTC)I have to say I agree w/ kiraclara this would have made the perfect ending. Soooo much better than what we were subjected to. (I'm still going into conniption fits at odd times day & night over THAT!)
And it would keep the fandom so excited (even through a hellishly long hiatus like we've been having) just thinking about the questions & connotations of it all.
Is Ianto part of the Families? Did The Blessing look into Jack & see how much he needed Ianto & so brought him back? Is Ianto mortal, immortal, something in between? Did Jack do something w/o knowing it & it just took this long or did the Miracle and its reversal tigger something?
Those are just off the top of my head. Imagine what the fandom could do if they got together on it. LOL Much more interesting than what MD actually left us with. I doubt the speculation will last more than a few months, if that long.
